Team Building Event Thomas Weiland Siftung
The weather was simply wonderful that morning. As a CityHunters team guide I had the pleasure of leading a Geocaching event for 22 participants from the Thomas Weiland Foundation at Karmeliterplatz in Mainz on 13 July 2024 at 10:45 AM — perfect conditions for a real team building experience in Mainz.
After a brief welcome and briefing we set off together from Karmeliterplatz. The group was split into five teams, given their starting materials, and shown the CityHunters app on the provided devices. Then off they went: with curiosity and team spirit the teams explored Mainz’s charming city center, discovered hidden corners, and passed landmarks such as Mainz Cathedral, the Electoral Palace, and the Drususstein.
During the tour the teams were on their own and competed in a friendly rivalry. Points were earned by correctly solving puzzles and successfully completing team tasks. I remained reachable by phone throughout and stepped in to help with questions or technical tricks without disturbing the competitive spirit. Tackling the tasks independently especially promotes teamwork and is what makes a team building experience in Mainz so valuable.
The atmosphere was buoyant: there was brainstorming, puzzling, and plenty of laughter. Some teams came up with surprisingly creative solutions, others scored through clear communication. The mix of competition and shared experiences strengthens cohesion — a central effect of any good team building event.
After exactly two and a half hours everyone met again at Karmeliterplatz for the award ceremony. Tension filled the air as the results were announced: first place went to the team Nutella ohne Butter with 270 points. Close behind in second place was the team Geocacher, also with 270 points — a tight race that will be remembered for a long time.
Experiences like these show how exciting and effective a team building experience in Mainz can be: discovering together, solving together, and celebrating together. I’m already looking forward to the next adventure in Mainz and more groups who want to get to know our city in this interactive way.
