Team Building Event BLD
Nine colleagues from the company BLD met on September 29, 2023 at 4:00 PM at Theo-Burauen-Platz, ready for our Murder Mystery Geocaching through Cologne. I accompanied the group as their team guide, and after a short welcome the participants were split into two teams – concentration was high, but mostly there was an excited buzz in the air.
Our concept blends suspense with city exploration: the teams used an app on their tablets that presented crime scenes and puzzles and guided them from station to station. In this way Cologne was discovered from a fresh perspective, from distinctive local spots to well-known sights like Cologne Cathedral, the Hohenzollern Bridge and Museum Ludwig. That mix is what makes our team building experience in Cologne so special.
During the tour the teams were left to their own devices and competed to score the most points. Points were earned by correctly solving puzzles and completing joint team tasks – cooperation, clear communication and quick thinking were essential. I stayed reachable by phone throughout the game in case of questions or minor technical issues, and cheered the teams on from a distance.
The weather was pleasant – not too hot, with a friendly late-summer light – the perfect atmosphere for an active city discovery. After exactly two hours everyone reconvened at Theo-Burauen-Platz for the awards ceremony. There we celebrated the successful collaboration, laughed about aha moments and handed the prize to the team with the highest score. Moments like these strengthen bonds and leave lasting memories.
As a team guide it was wonderful to see colleagues turn into a real investigative team. The event combines fun, strategy and shared experiences and is a strong example of an effective team building experience in Cologne.
